This project involved the extension of the Pennypack Trail and placement of a single span prefabricated steel pedestrian truss bridge over the Rockledge Branch of Pennypack Creek in Abington Township, Montgomery County.
Key Highlights
The prefabricated steel truss consists of an H-style (no portal bracing) and is constructed from weathering steel. The prefabricated steel truss is supported by cast-in-place cantilever substructures at each end. An architectural surface treatment was applied to the exposed faces of each substructure. The finished deck consists of tropical hardwood. Additional work included construction of approximately 800 feet of a stone paved trail at each bridge approach. At the North end of the bridge the trail connects to an existing portion of the Pennypack Trail and at the South end of the bridge the trail connects to Rockledge Park.
